To Sort or Not to Sort?

Sorting is a personal preference, that is, as long as you don't mind pink underwear!  Do I sort my clothes?  Well, yes, but I'm not as persnickety as say, my mother-in-law.  Anything new that is likely to 'bleed' color, like a new pair of jeans or a bright red tablecloth, will get sorted into 'like colors' or maybe into a load all by itself.  But for the most part, I will wash my whites separately, my towels in another load and just about everything else together and then wash everything on cold.  But that is just my preference.

Pay attention to the labels inside your clothing for specific washing and drying instructions.

Don't use too much soap!

Using more soap does not make for cleaner clothes!  In fact, using too much soap can leave a residue in your clothes, they will begin to look dingy and not feel clean.

All the washers at Wash World are high efficiency machines and work best with the recommended 1/4 cup for the 18 & 30 pound machines and 1/3 cup for the larger 40, 60 and 80 pound machines.  We recommend using high efficiency brands for a low-sudsing, cleaner wash.

Many laundry products are 'concentrated' - check the label and use the correct amount to save money and prevent over sudsing.

Hot or Cold Water?

Washing in cold water saves you money and is easier on your clothes.  Each of our washers offers a discount for using cold water.  Using cold water eliminates the cost of heating the water, and we pass the savings on to you.  Plus, washing in cold water is easier on fabrics and keeps your colors brighter longer.

Experts agree that it takes a water temperature of greater than 140 degrees to kill germs.  But water heated to 140 degrees will cause 3rd degree burns on a child in just 1 second, and take only 5 seconds to burn adult skin.  Hot water heaters are routinely set at 125 degrees - hot, but not hot enough to kill germs.

Clothes placed in a dryer set on medium will raise the temperature to 155 degrees, hot enough to kill germs, but harder on your clothes.

Commercial Dryers are HOT!

Our large capacity dryers have 3 settings: warm (130 degrees); medium (155 degrees); and hot (175 degrees).  Fill the dryers less than 2/3 full so the clothes have the opportunity to tumble dry.  Over filling a dryer will make drying time longer and may cause scorching.  Towels and heavy denim will take longer to dry that a load of sheets.

The cooler the dryer setting, the longer time to dry, but the easier on your clothes.  If you brought hangers, try removing clothes before they dry completely and place them on the hangers - this can also help keep wrinkles to a minimum.
